My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Horror > Fantasy > Epic
Indie Writer (Self-published)

I found this one "lurking" in the Horror section, but in actual fact when I decided upon it for my selection, it was listed as Fantasy Epic.  There are actually a few more of them in the series (it seems like it's serialised chapters rather than short stories from this Indie Writer.  Unfortunately, Amazon haven't got any details on him.  If anyone has any knowledge please get in touch.

The Island (Fallen Earth) is available as a free download HERE, with well over 150 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth ) Part 2 as a free download HERE, just over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth ) Part 3 as a free download HERE, just over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4.5 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth) Part 4 - annoying now available as a free download HERE, but I purchased it anyway  - listed at 65p - just over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

The Island (Fallen Earth) Final Chapters - again not free (listed at 65p), but it HERE - it would be hugely annoying to have a missing finale. Over 100 reviews (averaging out at 4 stars).

I seriously, hope it is going to be well worth the £1.30 I've forked out!!  As far as the freebie downloads are concerned, I am fed up with saying that they are available free at the time of my post, and I cannot guarantee that they will stay that way .... so I'm not going to say it again.

The good news just keeps on coming now.  I received another book for Review from an Author.  I will share another post about it later on, but in the meantime thank you Roy, I am looking forward to reading it.

This morning I'm back in the game and on the top 10,000 my Amazon Reviewer list is at 9,386 (<).  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.

Four book short story bundle - 428 pages.

* * * *

Summary:

There's nothing I enjoy more, especially when I'm feeling a wee bit down that a whole pack of seriously sexy men ... especially when they are holed up in Alaska .... just think of those long nights!

Other than the (almost obligatory for ebooks) typographical and grammatical error this was actually really well written, and enjoyed very much.

In order of preference for this four book bundle, my vote would be Moosed Up (Book 2); Impact (Book1) and Dreamweaver (Book 3) as joint second, and then Bearing All (Book 4) coming in third place - not that there was anything wrong with it.

Little sprinkles of humour throughout, they just of sneaked in here and there, which is always the sign of a well written piece of fiction.

For all you romance readers out there, I can heartily recommend this 4 star book.  One can certainly understand by Tiffinie Helmer is an award winner, I will certainly be keeping an eye out for more of her excellent writing.

After an epic fail of a day yesterday, doing housework and thwacking my hand so hard on the work surface that I'm truly lucky not to have broken the thing ... although OMG it hurts to type!, then having to hang around until 1'ish in the morning to collect Lou from her school trip to watch The Tempest at the Globe Theatre (apparently it was awesome  ..... I never managed to find the time to post a daily selection.

The last daily selection was all about covers, but you can't exactly accuse me of making today's choice like that .... black, white and boring.  However, from the 2 reviews that I've read on this one it might prove to far from that.  By a young Indie Writer, so I'm really excited to see how it pans out.

#343 - Famous or Not ~ LeAnn Coston *NEW AUTHOR

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Contemporary > Romance
Indie Writer (Self-published)

Description:

So, imagine this:
You're sitting in your backyard, in middle-America, and you hear a noise. You look up. The Sexiest Man in the Universe hops over your privacy fence and runs across your yard. After a few seconds, about seven or eight paparazzi hop the fence and follow him. Now, that's something you just don't see everyday in Oklahoma.

As the commotion continues and dogs start barking, you can hear the chase going all through your neighbour's yards. Finally, it quiets down again, and you look back at the magazine you were reading--the celebrity magazine showing the cover picture of the Sexiest Man in the Universe.

After a bit, you hear a noise, and Mr. Sexiest Man hops the fence-again! You realize he's probably only eluding paparazzi, but part of you hopes he came around to see you just one more time. You nod at the open door to the lawn mower shed. He ducks inside. The paparazzi hop the fence again, but you tell them their prey has eluded them. With disgust, they walk down your driveway and leave.

So, with wry amusement, you walk across your own backyard to your lawnmower shed, where the Sexiest Man in the Universe happens to be hiding.

Even if this was the movies, meet-cutes don't get any better than this.

Product Details:

Another one purchased as Free Kindle Download (see you should follow me I post a Daily Selection of freebie downloads from Kindle!).

Currently the listed price is showing as 77p though and free to Prime Member HERE or by clicking on the large title above the cover image photograph.

* * * * *

Summary:

I enjoyed it, although the whole 'meet cute' scenario of drop dead gorgeous movie star runs across back yard of slightly over-weight older woman a smidgen unbelievable at first.

However, the writing sufficiently converted by thinking that this could well happen, and love will find a way.

For me Tim could have been a bit more gutsy (it takes balls of steel to become top of your game, especially in the movie world) and Lorelei less self-doubting.

It was a refreshing change to find such a neat and error free ebook.  From memory I think I spotted possibly 2 errors (definitely 1 at 92%).  I am presuming she is an Indie Writer, should be commended on a quality piece of work all round.

For me it was a 4 star offering, and I highly recommend it for all you contemporary romance junkies out there.

Covers never fail to draw me in .... it's my creative artist's soul .... and in this case, is it any wonder with this beautiful example.

Another Historical Romance (I am in need of succour and healing time at the moment with everything going on) to make me feel happier.  Anyway after yesterday's choice a bit of light reading probably won't go amiss when I get round to his one.

Good Reads Web Site

I was vaguely aware of Good Reads up until now, but having checked it out recently I decided to give it a go and register an account over there.

It's so difficult to keep track of what I have read, will read and total books within a year, that it's much easier to enter the information on there as I go and the computer do the work for me, rather than risk missing stuff and mis-calculating totals etc.

So HERE is my Good Reads profile for all the trivial data stuff.  From now on I'm cutting out numbering the number of books tally for 2013 in brackets.

Another good reason for going down that route is that Amazon have recently purchased Good Reads, and it's nice to support the family as it were.

If anyone reading this is a Good Reads Member, send me a friend request or let me know what your username is and I will add you as a friend.

I will also be working on getting my previous books uploaded on to my Book Shelf over there as well, and then I can cut out numbering the posts altogether.

I can also then keep track of all my "To Read" daily Amazon Selections, and anything else I have on my Wish List all in one place.  It just means a lot of typing and inputting my end ... thank goodness for cut and paste!

#342 (#60 of 2013) - Prude & Prejudice ~ Francene Carroll *NEW AUTHOR

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Contemporary
Big Ears Media Publisher

Description:

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman with a name like Prudence Higginbottom must be in need of a good shagging.

Prudence Higginbottom’s youth was marred by the cruel taunts she endured over her unfortunate name, but at the age of twenty-six she has managed to rise above it all to become the part-owner of a café and catering business with her parents and three sisters in the small town of Merryton. When the Higginbottom family are hired to cater the opening function for a new business that has just relocated from London, Prue is excited as everyone else, especially when she discovers that the two company directors, Charles Bradley and William Darling, are handsome and single.

Her excitement, however, is short-lived. The first time she encounters William Darling at the company’s opening party he mocks her name and insults her appearance. She then overhears a conversation in which he expresses some very unsavoury opinions about immigration. It becomes her mission to expose him for the prejudiced, narrow-minded man that he is and prevent him from fermenting racial intolerance in her town.

Things become complicated when Prue discovers that she is not immune from prejudice herself, and William Darling behaves in ways that seem completely out of character for him. Through a series of misunderstandings and embarrassing drunken outbursts Prue and William finally get to know one another and realise that first impressions can be very misleading indeed.

Summary:

An interesting, if short, take on the Jane Austen Pride & Prejudice concept.

The characters were interesting, and the writing of a good enough quality that they were believable.

Strong male and female leads.  The Mother as a support character was well written, especially the scene at the party.l

There's humour sprinkled throughout this entertaining contemporary read, and I wouldn't hesitate to give it 5 stars.

My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

Kindle Store > Fiction > Contemporary
Publised by Armelle Productions - Indie Writers (Self-pubished)

I was drawn at first by the cover for this book, it's really well done.  No reviews so far, but from what I can work out from their blurb, this is "not" a religious work, although it's about a radio dish received messages that God is due to arrive on Earth on 3rd October ...... it's a Fantasy with possibly a bit of humour in their.  The blurb also advises that it is in fact a screenplay released before it goes on the big screen (that's a big boast I wonder if it's true, and whether the plot could live up to a big budget movie).  We can just check it out and see if their boast is true!

Novella - circa 100 pages

* * * * *

Summary:

Oh dear, this book was so bad that it was actually funny, although I don't think it was written with that view in mind - I could be wrong though.

Stilted dialogue and slow and confusingly written plot at times, and unbelievable characters.  I think it is safe to say that I wasn't a fan - of course, that is just my own opinion, it's horses for courses, somebody else may well love it.  Please don't hate me I take no great pleasure in critiquing somebody's work, I just tell the truth from my own perspective.

On the positive side, I don't think I noticed any errors typographical or grammatical, and it's a very short novella, so it was over quickly, and it was a freebie download at the time.  I would not be amused had I had to pay for it.

I think least said soonest mended with this one, I might check out something else by this author to see if it was just a one off disaster in this particular case.

Kate has to battle religious, cultural, and social prejudice to build a new life for herself.

And she has to battle to save her marriage - and re-build the fortune that was cruelly taken from them.

Product Details:

I got this as a free Kindle download at Amazon in February 2013.  However, at the time of writing this post it is listed as £2.99.  You can get it clicking HERE, or on the large title above the Cover Image Photograph.

* * * *

Summary:

It was a little on the slow side for me personally.  I found myself getting quite frustrated with Kate, and wishing she had a bit more gumption and get up and go.  Although having said that, the woman had trials enough to cope with:  a upper-class husband that couldn't take his down turn in circumstances or loss of children well, a handicapped child, family disagreements etc.

Having read quite a few Audrey Howard novels, it is quite difficult not to make a comparison between the two.  The style of writing is similar.  I would say possible Ms Howard has the edge.

Don't get me wrong it wasn.t that I didn't like, or indeed enjoy it, it's just if Kate had been written with just a bit more go and ambition, it could have been a spectacular offering.

There were just a couple of typographical and grammatical errors - when are there not?  Also the end formatting could do with being tidied up a bit.  The last sentence, flows into details about the author.  Another wee thought, in the late 1800s did they celebrate Halloween?

All in all a 3.5 star read, but for Amazon/Good Reads just not quite good enough to make a 4 star rating.

Make no mistake I would be interested in reading more of this family saga, and look forward to perhaps a bit more fire.

Hugs

Kay

Jillian is twenty six years old and grew up in Maine. No, Maine is not part of Canada and no, she (unfortunately) did not have a pet moose. She did, however, start writing when she was in the first grade and hasn't stopped since. Back then her stories revolved around fairy princesses, unicorns, and big smelly trolls. Now she enjoys writing historical romances and young adult novels, but one day hopes to get back to the fairy princesses and big smelly trolls.
She absolutely loves to hear from her readers, and can be contacted through her personal blog or by e-mail.

Summary:

Delightful and poignant short story by Indie Writer Jillian Eaton.

Just shows how not communicating as a couple can seriously damage a relationship, especially coupled with pride and pig-headedness.

I think I only spotted 1 typographical error in it (not bad going), which it would nice to see fixed.

Apart from that it was a 4 star read, treat yourself to this sweet little story.

There was also an excerpt from A Ravishing Redhead (one of the other books in the Quartet) that looked to be interesting too, I've added it to my Wish List.

It is very, very short though at 51 pages.

Summary:

Blink and you'll miss it, but having said that it was completely delightful.

A short review for a very short story (which I believe I only found about 1 typographical error in).

I snagged it for free.  The price point at the time of writing this is 75p, and I am sitting on the fence as to whether that's a little too expensive for what in effect is a very short story.

A 3.5 star read on the blog, but I will give it 4 on Amazon.

The arrival of wealthy, well-connected Miranda, whose kiss he can't forget, presents a lawful opportunity to increase his coffers. His problems seem solved--until she rejects his suit. Out of options and falling for the heiress, Fox must risk what principles he has left and take advantage of her wicked ways--even if it ruins them both.

Product Details:

Another freebie download that I managed to get hold of in February, at the time of writing this post it is still showing as free HERE (listed price £8.34).  Obviously, if you are reading this post retrospectively I cannot guarantee that it is still available as a free download.

Summary:

A tale of a fundamentally good girl behaving very badly, her banishment by cold and unfeeling parents (maybe that had a lot to do with the bad behaviour?) and the redemption that being loved and needed can bring.

I absolutely loved Fox and the way he reacted to Miranda.  What girl doesn't love a smoking hot hero that works his butt of to save orphans?

I know I point it out a lot, but there were a few typographical and grammatical errors (it seems that it is just about impossible to find an ebook without them), and I it would be nice to seem them fixed.

I snagged this as a freebie download, but I would happily pay to buy this offering by Ms Burke and am looking forward to reading the whole of her series, Secrets and Scandals.

For me a 4 star read all the way, and highly recommended.

My Daily Selection for Free Kindle Download at Amazon

*NEW Author

Kindle Store > Books > Fiction > Historical > Romance > Fantasy, Futuristic & Ghost
Publisher:  Dark Valentine Press

My choice today was based firstly on the cover .... it just goes to show the benefit of a good one! Plus it's still in my favoured genre of Romance, even though it has a fantasy, futuristic, ghost twist to it.  No review on it so far, but she's a fairly established author published by Dark Valentine Press.

You can find it quickly over at Amazon by clicking the large title just above the cover photograph, or click HERE,  As always, please bean mind that I have no guarantee how long they will stay available for free download, so if you are reading this post retrospectively, you may well have to pay for it - I will review it as soon as possible and report back on it's merits.

This morning my ratings slipped back a tiny bit to 11,805.  I would love to get to the top 1,000 Reviewers' some day .... so if you find the Daily Kindle Download info useful please go over to my Reviews on Amazon and leave me some positive feedback - which helps my rating, and will earn you my grateful thanks.
